Chi pregio vuol in virtù pong'amore,
in donna no, ch'a vizio 'nduce 'l core.

L'alma gentil seguir de' gentil cosa,
femina no, però ch'è cosa vile.
Virtù dett'è gentil: dove si posa
l'animo anobilisce e fallo umile:
però seguir d'amore el vero stile
virtù s'intend'e l'altro è grande errore.

Alcuna volta fu' degli ignoranti
che dicien che virtù è donna amare;
non conosceva ancor i lor sembianti
falsi, da far la mente giusta errare.
Or ch'io so quel che sono e quanto vare,
prova m'ha tratto fuor del lor ardore.
