Non c'è rimasa fè:
l'un l'altro inganna sotto suo mercé.

Per lunga prova ben certo ne so
che l'amor basta quanto l'utiltà
ma se Fortuna ti dice di no,
ogn'uon ti fuge, se non la viltior.
Non ti val umiltà
di porre el capo dove prima el pè.

Per me lo dico come camperò
da tradimento sotto lealtà:
chi a me ride, a lui ghignerò
come altri a me, io altrui fedeltà
e non più libertà,
per non cadere a la crudel merzé.

Raguarda, Idio, e vedi che si fa
tanto del mal, che non si sa virtù.
Chi è piggior, ciò che vuol fare e' fa
sanza contrario di giù o di su.
Deh, Signor che se' tu,
fa' grande el buono e 'l malo dica - Omè! -

Translation

There is no faith left.
One deceives the other, pretending to thank him.

I know, through long experience,
that love lasts as long as it is expedient.
But if good fortune fails you,
everybody shuns you except the very worthless.
There is no point in being humble
and putting your head as low as your feet.

But let me tell you how I will escape
from betrayal disguised as loyalty.
If someone laughs at me, I will grin back at him.
I will be as loyal to others as they are to me;
I will give them no more freedom than they give me.
In this way I shall not be cruelly used.

Look around, o God, and see that so much evil
is done that virtue is no longer known.
The most evil do what they please
without opposition from below or above.
You who are Lord,
strengthen the good and make the bad cry out for mercy.
