Se già seguir altra che te non volli
ben seguist'altrui,
donna non tanto tuo quant'io tuo fui.

Ché, se fedel i' fu', ferm'e costante
a te com'a signor de la mie vita,
dovevi non voler mai altro amante,
perché t'ho sempre con amor seguita.
E or da me per altrui se' fugita
e io da te per lui.
Vedrai s'andrà fedel, quant'io, costui

Translation

I never wished to court any but you;
you, woman, seek another
who is not so much your servant as I was.

Whereas, if I was loyal, steady and true
to you as to the lady of my life,
you never should have sought another lover
because I have always courted you with love.
And now you have fled from me for another man,
and I because of him have fled from you.
I doubt he'll follow you as loyally as I did.
